Choose a Proper and Correct Kit
When choosing a shower pan kit, it should be durable and sturdy. You should also make sure that there hasn't been any damage to it during transportation to the final installation site. For the sake of the warranty and the homeowner's sanity, the products and installation should be proper and correct.There are kits that are premade and some shower pans are made on the job site. The premade kits are great as they simplify the process. The kits can be installed without a bed of mortar. The bed of the shower pan is pre-pitched so there is no fuss required with the pitch by the installer.
It is simply installed directly onto your subfloor/substrate with a modified thin-set product and you are off to the next step. It is always a good idea to read the instructions of the shower pan kit before leaving the home improvement store to ensure that you have the right products to finish the job. If you use the wrong products, the installation will be a waste of time and of money.

The shower pan kit that is offered by Schluter Systems, includes the shower tray, the curb, a waterproofing membrane, strip and corners and a drain that includes a flange. The system that is offered by DIX Systems includes their one piece liner, a pre-pitch kit, their Kirb-Perfect kit and Quick-Pitch kit, a 3 part drain, weep hole protector, plumbers caulk and 5 linear feet of Bituthene (waterproofs the curb).
The Noble Company offers kits as well; however, this company has a number of different options for each component. For example, for the curb they offer a solid curb or a curb overlay. They also offer several different types of drains and corners. There is also multiple membranes for the floor and the walls to opt for.For kits that have premade liners, the shapes are typically the standard square, a neo angled liner in which one corner has been removed and a rectangle. There are several sizes available and many companies offer custom services if needed. There is no excuse for not using a liner.
